Festival season is here, which means you may be compelled to fill your closet with new outfits worn by your favorite celebs and models... some of which will only be worn once and then forgotten about or tossed away. SO our solution is the sustainable festival season edit with pieces that will help you stand out in that crowd but are made with integrity, will last way more than a few washes and can be worn year round whether you're parading across the fields of Coachella or spicing up your look for brunch with friends. Check out our favorites below!
I recently had the pleasure of shooting with the ladies behind YSTR, a laid-back, chic Cali clothing company that focusses on transparency with their customers, produces locally in their LA office, and ensures fair wages for their workers. I was introduced to them by Grace Simmons, when she named it as one of her favorite sustainable companies she wears in the ODM/ODC questionnaire. I had to check them out!
I was totally intrigued by their stylish staples, a key theme I'm interested in promoting on ODM/ODC. Their looks are easy to wear and can be dressed up or down from your coffee shop hang outs to the Instagramable fields of Coachella or Fyre (just kidding on the latter;). As two like-minded companies with style and sustainability at heart, I reached out to YSTR to see if there was some way we could collaborate.
On a recent trip to Los Angeles, I was able to meet with April (co-founder), LaChane (marketing manager) and Nico (designer) to do a YSTR X ODM/ODC photoshoot. I picked out my favorite pieces, the ones that I love and the ones I envisioned many off-duty models in. The pieces you see below are perfect for the festival season, but are also great staples that you can re-wear year round! Check out my picks below!
The pinstripe and fringe on this outfit are perfect for the beach or spicing up my usual go-to, all-black ensemble. That's what I loved most about this jacket. It was great for layering on top of this adorable bralette but I could also see myself in my black jeans, motorcycle boots and tank with this as a statement jacket on top. These pieces are part of their collection for the YSTRCLUB; a curated capsule of ethically made, no-waste clothing delivered to your doorstep every month.
I love my denim! The Sid Denim Jacket is a perfect layering piece and, adds a nice pop of color to my usual black and white outfits. I liked the way the collar was structured enough for me to pop up a bit.
Denim! Jumpsuits! I'm in! The Hardy Jumpsuit is a classic. It's super comfortable, nice and airy for the summer and super easy to quickly throw on and look put-together. I love the black strap details they've added along with the removable thin black rope belt you can tie around your waist as an option. Also available in black :)
While it seems as though festivals have become more about people's outfits than the music, we understand the need to want to look good! But they seem to have become more of a marketing tool that companies use to sell more clothes (that will only get a few wears at festivals). YSTR creates clothes that are well-suited to festivals but are also Transeasonal; a term the company describes as "clothing that essentially is seasonless and classic in aesthetics. They do not follow trends but are transcendent of seasons. It lasts longer and saves money for customers due to the timeless design." Well said YSTR!
Looking good also comes from feeling good. And nothing feels better than knowing where your clothes are made, who they're made by and the story behind each piece. I chose pieces I knew were stylish, sustainable, and versatile to get as many wears and tears as they could! You know that with YSTR, the thought and care that goes into each garment ensures style and longevity.
