OFF DUTY MODELS WHO CARE
1) What are a few things you do to stay environmentally friendly?
I keep up with the basics like recycling, turning off the lights, unplugging electronics that I’m not using, but I’ve recently started taking it a bit further by composting again and have become very conscious about my choices as a consumer: The clothing I buy, the containers I use, the food choices I make, etc. I think a lot of being environmentally friendly is being conscious about the choices you are making and not being excessive out of thoughtlessness or laziness.
2) Do you have any favorite sustainable or ethical clothing lines?
I love Reformation (who doesn’t) but sustainable and ethical clothing can get expensive, although it’s definitely a great investment. I’m a huge fan of hand me downs and clothing swaps (all of my friends are amazing and ask me before they get rid of things!) I also love thrifting like any gal who has lived in Brooklyn before.
I love the brand Miakoda as well! They are an ethical brand, made out of organic plant-based materials and are based in Brooklyn. The owner Julia also happens to be a total sweetheart and an amazing human. I highly recommend checking them out!
3) What are some of your favorite organic beauty products?
This is one I’m still working on. For the longest time I was just washing my face with bar soap and water - (whenever I tell people that they cringe!) I get so overwhelmed by all of the products out there and have never really used that many. However, the older I get, the more I want to find a skincare line that works for me because I’d rather invest in great products and be able to wear little to no make-up. (Glowing from the inside out is alway the goal.) I was recently gifted some amazing products by Kypris and also Farmacy (I’m a lucky gal!) and I can really notice the difference in my skin. So, until further notice, I’m sticking to a combo of those brands! -Ha! I used bar soap for the longest time.... Make up artists weren't too happy to hear that but I honestly think my skin was a lot clearer then... It's hard with how many products we get thrown at but once you find one or two that work, you're right, you'll definitely start glowing from the inside:)
4) On a day off, you’re heading to your favorite coffee shop. What are you wearing?
Well, I’m definitely a roll out of bed, find something that’s clean/clean enough kind of gal… I’m always late so I usually just throw on jeans and t-shirt which can be easily transitioned into the summer look: jean shorts and a t-shirt. Groundbreaking, I know.
5) Tell me about something you’re doing simultaneously with modeling that motivates you. Another job? A project? Volunteering? A hobby?
I’ve recently started taking Uni classes again which I’ve been really enjoying. I’m taking a class called Argument and Reasoning right now, which I love because it’s so applicable to everyday life - How to build a good argument and rebuttal someone’s refutation, respectfully, informatively, and in an organized matter. I’m actually writing my final Affirmative case right now about how the United States needs to to lessen its dependence on animal agriculture. -WOW! Sounds incredible. I always admire models who work and are able to go back to school. Good on you girl!
6) In addition to modeling, what else may you be doing in your future, say 5 years from now?
This question is so tough for me to answer, especially at this time in my life. I have so many things that I’m interested in, so a lot of the time I feel a little frozen when it comes time to make decisions. Right now, I know that I want to make art and I want to tell stories. I want to learn as much as I can, and give back to others and do good things for the world. I want to travel everywhere and meet and talk to as many people as I possibly can. And I want to have a lot of FUN. The rest is still a mystery, but I’m pretty excited to see what comes next! -I feel you Sam! It's great to have goals to live by but it's also important to live in the now. Sounds like you're doing both:)
